In the context of highly dominant teacher centric schooling practices, Aksharaa has developed its own curricular approach to education that leads to holistic development of children. Children learn through culturally relevant contextualized activities.
At Aksharaa School, we believe that every child is creative and intelligent, and can succeed in a positive learning atmosphere. This is achieved through culturally relevant, practical and fun-filled learning material.
We believe that the curriculum has to be well-linked to children’s daily world and be able to provide exposure to world class materials for global competency. We have ensured that our curriculum is world-class and connects well with children’s day to day life.
Learning can be effective only if it is culturally relevant, age appropriate and interesting for children. Our approach to pedagogy is participatory and collaborative and is based on exploration, problem solving and research. We strongly believe that learning should not be limited to classrooms, so our students frequently go on field visits to gain practical experience. A balanced education system confirms age appropriate cognitive development along with adequate physical and emotional growth and social adaptation. For this we follow the Learning-Reinforcement-Practice-Application (LRPA) model.
We believe that mere paper and pencil tests cannot assess student’s progress. Our assessment approach is continuous and on-the-spot. We assess children when they are engaged in activities inspired by the theory of multiple-intelligence. Through multi-faceted assessment mechanism we trace problems students struggle with and provide an appropriate support when necessary.
We strive to promote local knowledge and culture, and emphasize use of modern technology, games and fun-filled activities. Religion, culture and tradition are the sources of learning. Activities at Aksharaa promote self-respect, respect for humanity, social values and global citizenship.
